CATA JOB APPLICANT EVALUATION PROCESS

CATA has established processes and procedures to ensure that vacant positions are filled in a manner that ensures the best qualified applicant is hired. Therefore, the applicant review process will include one or more of the following: written, oral or performances tests, examinations, or interviews to determine an applicant’s potential for employment with the Authority. In addition to an evaluation of past experience and training, a criminal background and reference check, pre-employment drug screen and if the position requires, a pre-employment physical will be conducted at CATA’s expense.

Maintenance Person – 3rd Shift (approx. 10pm start time)

CATA provides CDL training and testing (required) for the right person.

We are located in State College, PA just on the outskirts of the Pennsylvania State University campus. We are currently in the completion phase of a major facilities expansion that will provide a state of the art working environment for our growing employee base.

Some pertinent responsibilities of the position are listed below.

  • • Operates and qualifies on fuel dispensing equipment to include CNG, Diesel and Gas;
    • Maintains CDL license certification and skills; • Operates snow removal equipment, blowers and plows;
    • Cleaning transit coaches, bus stop shelters, buildings and facilities; performing building maintenance work;
    • Possesses the skills and background to perform minor vehicle and facility repair work;
    • Does heavy cleaning work in coaches, building halls, offices, shops and yards;
    • Operates sweeper and other powered cleaning equipment;
    • Dusts, washes, washes and polishes furniture and woodwork;
    • Washes window and walls;
    • Tends surrounding walks and grounds; mows grass and trims shrubbery;
    • Cleans shop and industrial areas;
    • May move furniture and load or unload large freight;
    • Washes and cleans buses and operates and maintains bus wash facility;

Some Essential Physical Functions:

• Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, working, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions;
• This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects;
• The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils.

Mechanic II - (2nd or 3rd Shift)

Do you have an employment background that includes skills in the maintenance, repair and cleaning of transit coaches, buildings, bus stop shelters and properties? Are you organized, do you possess a strong work ethic and the ability to work with a diverse group of people? This position requires flexibility, the aptitude to follow direction and the capability to perform a variety of physical work-related tasks. Successful completion of CDL training and testing will be required.

As a Mechanic II at CATA you will be working with a team of dedicated employees who have committed to providing excellent service to all of our staff and customers. Some pertinent responsibilities of the position are listed below.

  • • Inspecting, repairing and maintaining transit coaches, automobiles and equipment;
    • Performs preventive maintenance and lubrication services per the manufacturer’s specs;
    • Inspects vehicles for physical damages and mechanical shortcomings;
    • Performs tune-ups on diesel, gasoline, and CNG engines;
    • Diagnoses and repairs brake systems, engine, transmission, rear differential, electrical and air system failures;
    • Relines brakes;
    • Repairs or replaces generators, injectors and air conditioning;
    • Repairs and operates special tools and equipment used in the maintenance of transit coaches and support vehicles;
    • Prepares repair orders and other maintenance related documents;
    • Performs body work such as patching, sanding, painting and bumping;
    • Conducts road test and goes on road calls to repair and/or retrieve disabled vehicles;
    • Performs Pennsylvania State vehicle inspections per vehicle code;
    • Fills in where needed as qualified;
    • Performs related tasks as required.

Facilities Person

We are located in State College, PA just on the outskirts of the Pennsylvania State University campus. We are currently in the completion phase of a major facilities expansion that will provide a state of the art working environment for our growing employee base.

Some pertinent responsibilities of the position are listed below.

• Makes minor repairs to building components such as drywall, paint, floor coverings, ceiling tiles, doors, locks, office furniture etc.
• Performs minor electrical repairs such as replacing light bulbs, ballasts, switches and wiring in accordance with all safety and code requirements.
• Performs minor plumbing repairs to faucets, piping, valves and drains.
• Performs periodic inspections and preventative maintenance on facility systems such as interior and exterior lighting, electrical, plumbing, gas detection, lubrication and other related equipment.
• Operates plow truck, lawn mower, fork lift, man lift, floor scrubber etc.
• Performs snow removal of walkways, driveways, parking lots and bus stops/shelters.
• Cleans/mops and operates floor scrubber on shop and bus storage concrete floors.
• Maintain building grounds. Includes weeding, mulching, trimming, mowing and trash pickup.

Some Essential Physical Functions

• Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and periodically up to 80 pounds with assistance.
• Required to bend, kneel, crouch, reach or climb ladders. Examples include the ability to shovel or dig, kneel to repair flooring, bend, and stretch while painting, climbing of extension ladders, safely walk on building roof or uneven surfaces.
• Respond quickly to plant emergencies such as gas detection, fire and security alarms, fluid leaks and power outages.
• Adequate vision, hearing and verbal abilities are required to perform all job functions safely and efficiently.
