Payroll and Benefits Coordinator


CATA has an immediate full-time Payroll and Benefits Coordinator job available. The ideal
candidate for the Payroll and Benefits Coordinator job will have prior professional office
experience with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. If your qualifications meet

  • Major Responsibilities:

-Serves as CATA’s payroll representative and assists employees in resolving payroll issues.
Process payroll for all employees in an accurate and timely way entering hours, deductions,
rate changes, transfers etc.;

-Prepares timesheets and distributes to the appropriate departments;
-Update and maintain information to HRIS, including demographic and pay information;
maintains the employee database by processing updates and employment status changes;

-Completes staff timesheets; tracks and maintains accurate accruals and balances of leave;
-Post new job opening; participates in screening, interviewing and hiring process; maintains
applicant files and EEO records;
-Communicates with applicants and employees in person or on the phone on a daily basis
regarding requests and questions related to benefits, employment and other human
resource areas as applicable;

-Performs reference and criminal background checks; processes driving records for new
hires; schedule drug test for new hires and assists with other logistics;
-Coordinates and provides new hire orientation and prepares new hire files according to
policy and legal standards; assures paperwork is completed and submitted accurately;
-Track the new hires performance review;
-Processes terminations;
-Provide benefit orientations, enrollments and changes of insurance. Process and maintain
all status reports and pay changes, both on computer and paper system. Done timely and
accurately including the COBRA program;

-Ensures that all employees receive the required information regarding benefits, and
processes the benefits paperwork;
-Maintains current knowledge of benefits and legal compliance;
-Remains current in the understanding of the agency benefit programs and benefit policies;
-Is well versed in the understanding of ADA and FMLA;

-Represents CATA at unemployment hearings and workers compensation hearings as
-Maintains OSHA and EEO, new hire, termination, logs etc. as directed;
-Posts government mandated and company related communication materials on bulletin
boards as required and updates them as necessary;
-Tracks electronic and paper grievance files;
-Tracks FMLA leave; provides information to employees as needed;

-Processes short and long-term disability claims and unemployment compensation claim

Minimum Requirements
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and
considerable office and word processing experience; Ability to maintain high level of
confidentiality; Organizational skills; attention to detail; Experience dealing with unions and
collective bargaining agreement language; Excellent communications skills and problem


For this position CATA offers paid time off (vacations, sick days, holiday, etc.), Health Insurance

Disability and free transit pass. Starting salary will be between $36,971 and $44,365.
