CATA JOB APPLICANT EVALUATION PROCESS

CATA has established processes and procedures to ensure that vacant positions are filled in a manner that ensures the best qualified applicant is hired. Therefore, the applicant review process will include one or more of the following: written, oral or performances tests, examinations, or interviews to determine an applicant’s potential for employment with the Authority. In addition to an evaluation of past experience and training, a criminal background and reference check, pre-employment drug screen and if the position requires, a pre-employment physical will be conducted at CATA’s expense.

Bus Operators

Do you have an employment background that includes customer service, a strong work ethic and the ability to work with a diverse group of people? This position requires flexibility, the aptitude to follow direction and the capability to perform a variety of work-related tasks. Successful completion of CDL Class B with Passenger Endorsement training and testing will be required - CATA provides training and testing for the right person.

CATA is located in State College, PA just on the outskirts of the Pennsylvania State University campus. We are nearing completion of a major expansion of our facilities to provide a state of the art working environment for our growing employee base.

As a Bus Operator at CATA you will be working with a team of dedicated employees who are committed to providing excellent service to all of our staff and customers. Some pertinent responsibilities of the position are listed below.

• Safe and timely operation of a transit coach in all types of weather conditions while in compliance with FTA policies/procedures and all Federal and State traffic laws/regulations
• Tactful and courteous interaction with riders, other motorists and the general public
• Maintain working knowledge of streets, current bus routes and stops, fare structures, and bus pass programs
• Comply with ADA requirements to properly operate the accessibility ramp and wheelchair lifts, safely secure passengers, and make required stop announcements as needed
• Performing pre-trip/post-trip inspections
• Complete required paperwork accurately and legibly as needed for pre-trip/post-trip, incidents/accidents, and maintenance repair forms
• Work a flexible schedule that includes nights, weekends, holidays, and split shifts **40 hours a week is not initially guaranteed**
• Performs related tasks as required

Benefits:

Facilities Person (2nd or 3rd Shift)

Do you have an employment background that includes skills in the maintenance and repair of buildings and bus stop shelters? A proven strong work ethic, with good organizational skills and the ability to work with a diverse team, are just what we are looking for. This position requires flexibility, the aptitude to follow direction and the capability to perform a variety of physical, work-related tasks.

We are located in State College, PA just on the outskirts of the Pennsylvania State University campus. We are nearing completion of a major expansion of our facilities that will provide a state of the art working environment for our growing employee base.

As a Facilities Person at CATA, you will be working with a team of dedicated employees who are committed to providing excellent service to our staff and customers. Some pertinent responsibilities of the position are listed below.

• Clean and disinfect restrooms on a regular basis.
• Dust/wipe clean; tables, desks, base boards, light fixtures and HVAC vents etc.
• Routinely inspect and replenish paper towel, tissues and soap dispensers.
• Sweep and damp mop vinyl composition tile and other hard floors.
• Vacuum carpeted floors and entry mats including offices, hallways and communal spaces on a regular basis.
• Maintain building grounds, including weeding, mulching, trimming, mowing, snow removal and trash pickup.
• Perform periodic inspections and preventative maintenance on facility systems such as interior and exterior lighting, electrical, plumbing, gas detection, lubrication and other related equipment.
• Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and periodically up to 80 pounds with assistance. Required to bend, kneel, crouch, reach or climb ladders.

Service Person (2nd or 3rd Shift)

Do you have an employment background that includes intermediate level skills in the maintenance and repair of CNG, gasoline and diesel engines? A proven strong work ethic, with good organizational skills and the ability to work with a diverse team, are just what we are looking for. This position requires flexibility, the aptitude to follow direction and the capability to perform a variety of physical, work-related tasks. Successful completion of CDL Class A with Passenger Endorsement training and testing will be required - CATA provides training and testing for the right person.

• Assisting in performing general maintenance and repair of transit coaches, automobiles, and equipment; • Performs periodic maintenance on vehicles in conformance with manufacturer’s specifications and requirements;
• Inspects vehicles for damage and wear;
• Changes and repairs all sizes and types of tires;
• Does minor mechanical repairs and performs minor component replacement and repair;
• Makes service calls to repair and/or retrieve disabled vehicles;
• Works in conjunction with mechanics on major repairs;
• Performs Pennsylvania State vehicle inspections per vehicle code;
• Operates and qualifies on fuel dispensing equipment to include CNG, Diesel and Gas;

Mechanic II Position (2nd or 3rd Shift)

As a Mechanic II at CATA you will be working with a team of dedicated employees who are committed to providing excellent service to all of our staff and customers. Some pertinent responsibilities of the position are listed below.

• Inspecting, repairing and maintaining transit coaches, automobiles and equipment;
• Performs preventive maintenance and lubrication services per the manufacturer’s specs;
• Inspects vehicles for physical damages and mechanical shortcomings;
• Performs tune-ups on CNG and gasoline engines;
• Diagnoses and repairs brake systems, engine, transmission, rear differential, electrical and air system failures; **Cummins Insite and Detroit Diesel ProLink diagnostic experience desired
• Relines brakes;
• Repairs or replaces alternators and air conditioning components;
• Repairs and operates special tools and equipment used in the maintenance of transit coaches and support vehicles;
• Prepares work orders and other maintenance related documents;
• Performs body work such as patching, sanding, painting and bumping;
• Conducts road tests and goes on road calls to repair and/or retrieve disabled vehicles;
• Performs Pennsylvania State vehicle inspections per vehicle code;
• Performs related tasks as required.
