CATA JOB APPLICANT EVALUATION PROCESS

CATA has established processes and procedures to ensure that vacant positions are filled in a manner that ensures the best qualified applicant is hired. Therefore, the applicant review process will include one or more of the following: written, oral or performances tests, examinations, or interviews to determine an applicant’s potential for employment with the Authority. In addition to an evaluation of past experience and training, a criminal background and reference check, pre-employment drug screen and if the position requires, a pre-employment physical will be conducted at CATA’s expense.

Operations Trainer (approx. July-August 2017 start)

If you have an employment background that includes prior experience in developing or implementing workforce training programs or in conducting focused training for personnel - CATA may have a job for you. A proven, strong, work ethic, demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to lead and direct a diverse team are vital to what we are looking for.

CDL class A with P endorsement is a requirement for this position. Training and testing may be provided for the right person.

We are located in State College, PA just on the outskirts of the Pennsylvania State University campus. We are currently in the completion phase of a major facilities expansion that will provide a state of the art working environment for our growing employee base.

Some pertinent responsibilities of the position are listed below.

• Develops new or enhances current training content and materials for all assigned training classes.
• Works directly with trainees or in coordination with Driver Trainers in the study, skill development and road experience for the attainment of CDL Class B with passenger endorsement.
• Serves as co-investigator for collisions/accidents, conducts analysis and makes recommendation to Safety and Training Manager for preventive measure training.
• Operates a transit bus when required. • Maintains calendar of recurring training requirements and schedules monthly, quarterly or annual meeting topics accordingly.
• Evaluates training needs, assists in the development and implementation of all annual training topics. Assists in researching speakers or programs pertinent to the development of safety sensitive personnel to meet CATA’s performance and customer service objectives.
• Oversees defensive driving program; including scheduling and teaching classes; maintains and updates participant database.

Some Essential Physical Functions:

• This position is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions with extreme high or low temperatures;

Position: Operations Trainer


Operations Supervisor (approx. July-August 2017 start)

CATA provides CDL training and testing (required) for the right person.

We are located in State College, PA just on the outskirts of the Pennsylvania State University campus.  We are currently in the completion phase of a major facilities expansion that will provide a state of the art working environment for our growing employee base.

Some pertinent responsibilities of the position are listed below.

• Planning and supervising transit system operations;
• Supervises the day to day operation of the public transit system and driver core;
• Monitors the activity of drivers, dispatchers and the function of the Operations department;
• Completes initial investigations for collisions and workplace injuries;
• Implements union contract policies and work rules;
• Ensures all routes are properly staffed and that timetables are maintained;
• Operates a transit bus when required; • Responds to and investigates customer inquiries and complaints;
• Maintains records in accordance with State and Federal regulations;
• Coordinates and conducts initial disciplinary meetings with drivers;
• Acts as Department manager when called upon to do so;
• Required to maintain appropriate driver’s license with endorsements, valid in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania;

Position: Operations Supervisor


Mechanic II - (2nd or 3rd Shift)

Do you have an employment background that includes skills in the maintenance, repair and cleaning of transit coaches, buildings, bus stop shelters and properties? Are you organized, do you possess a strong work ethic and the ability to work with a diverse group of people? This position requires flexibility, the aptitude to follow direction and the capability to perform a variety of physical work-related tasks. Successful completion of CDL training and testing will be required.

As a Mechanic II at CATA you will be working with a team of dedicated employees who have committed to providing excellent service to all of our staff and customers. Some pertinent responsibilities of the position are listed below.

  • • Inspecting, repairing and maintaining transit coaches, automobiles and equipment;
    • Performs preventive maintenance and lubrication services per the manufacturer’s specs;
    • Inspects vehicles for physical damages and mechanical shortcomings;
    • Performs tune-ups on diesel, gasoline, and CNG engines;
    • Diagnoses and repairs brake systems, engine, transmission, rear differential, electrical and air system failures;
    • Relines brakes;
    • Repairs or replaces generators, injectors and air conditioning;
    • Repairs and operates special tools and equipment used in the maintenance of transit coaches and support vehicles;
    • Prepares repair orders and other maintenance related documents;
    • Performs body work such as patching, sanding, painting and bumping;
    • Conducts road test and goes on road calls to repair and/or retrieve disabled vehicles;
    • Performs Pennsylvania State vehicle inspections per vehicle code;
    • Fills in where needed as qualified;
    • Performs related tasks as required.
