CATA JOB APPLICANT EVALUATION PROCESS

CATA has established processes and procedures to ensure that vacant positions are filled in a manner that ensures the best qualified applicant is hired. Therefore, the applicant review process will include one or more of the following: written, oral or performances tests, examinations, or interviews to determine an applicant’s potential for employment with the Authority. In addition to an evaluation of past experience and training, a criminal background and reference check, pre-employment drug screen and if the position requires, a pre-employment physical will be conducted at CATA’s expense.

Dispatcher

This position assists in routing, scheduling and assigning bus driver personnel: answers questions and records actions: responds to emergency telephone requests as appropriate: and refers to supervisors as needed. Must be able to maintain two-way radio communications and operate computerized records and files as necessary. As a dispatcher, you are required to maintain a high level of multi-tasking and remain calm while working effectively with passengers and co-workers. This is a safety sensitive position.

Major Responsibilities/Activities:
• Accurately prepares multiple daily operator schedules;
• Monitors service using specialized computerized system tools;
• Answers phones; Accurately communicates detailed information to coworkers and the public;
• Checks drivers in and out as scheduled;
• Monitors driver on time performance and supports policy compliance; reports all relevant information to Operations Supervisors for action;
• Assigns and posts bus sheet assignments for each daily run;
• Assists maintenance in responding to on-the-road fleet issues;
• Keeps accurate and orderly records;
• Maintains a proficient working knowledge of the transit system and the region with the ability to prepare and communicate detours and other changes to drivers and the public;

Minimum Requirements:
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Authority officials, associates and the general public;
• Ability to communicate ideas effectively both orally and in writing;
• Ability to work under pressure and with frequent distractions;
• Ability to quickly prioritize multiple tasks;
• Experience with Microsoft office, primarily Excel and Access preferred;
• Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Benefits

Maintenance Person – (2nd or 3rd shift)

Do you have an employment background that includes intermediate level skills in the care, minor repair and cleaning of transit coaches, buildings, bus stop shelters and properties? Are you organized, do you possess a strong work ethic and the ability to work with a diverse group of people?  This position requires flexibility, the aptitude to follow direction and the capability to perform a variety of physical work-related tasks. Successful completion of CDL training and testing will be required.

As a Maintenance Person at CATA you will be working with a team of dedicated employees who have committed to providing excellent service to all of our staff and customers. Some pertinent responsibilities of the position are listed below.

  • • Operates and qualifies on fuel dispensing equipment to include CNG, Diesel and Gas;
    • Maintains CDL license certification and skills
    • Operates snow removal equipment, blowers and plows;
    • Cleaning transit coaches, bus stop shelters, buildings and facilities; performing building maintenance work;
    • Possesses the skills and background to perform minor vehicle and facility repair work;
    • Does heavy cleaning work in coaches, building halls, offices, shops and yards;
    • Operates sweeper and other powered cleaning equipment;
    • Sweeps, mops, waxes, buffs and scrubs floors;
    • Dusts, washes, washes and polishes furniture and woodwork;
    • Cleans restrooms;
    • Washes window and walls;
    • Tends surrounding walks and grounds; mows grass and trims shrubbery;
    • Cleans shop and industrial areas;
    • May move furniture and load or unload large freight;
    • Washes and cleans buses and operates and maintains bus wash facility;

  • • Inspecting, repairing and maintaining transit coaches, automobiles and equipment;
    • Performs preventive maintenance and lubrication services per the manufacturer’s specs;
    • Inspects vehicles for physical damages and mechanical shortcomings;
    • Performs tune-ups on diesel, gasoline, and CNG engines;
    • Diagnoses and repairs brake systems, engine, transmission, rear differential, electrical and air system failures;
    • Relines brakes;
    • Repairs or replaces generators, injectors and air conditioning;
    • Repairs and operates special tools and equipment used in the maintenance of transit coaches and support vehicles;
    • Prepares repair orders and other maintenance related documents;
    • Performs body work such as patching, sanding, painting and bumping;
    • Conducts road test and goes on road calls to repair and/or retrieve disabled vehicles;
    • Performs Pennsylvania State vehicle inspections per vehicle code;
    • Fills in where needed as qualified;
    • Performs related tasks as required.
