Assists the Maintenance Manager and as necessary act on his or her behalf in their absence.
Supervise, train and monitor the work of the mechanics and service crew engaged in maintaining,
servicing, repairing and fueling buses and other vehicles and equipment.
Ensure completed work by service employees and mechanics meet quality and safety expectations.
Ensure work orders are appropriately scheduled and completed in a timely manner while meeting
safety and quality requirements.
Responds to inquiries and complaints concerning vehicles and equipment.
Ensure that all completed work is appropriately captured and recorded in the fleet management
software and that all records are accurate. Prepares warranty claims.
Work with the Inventory/Parts Clerk to ensure that inventory records are correct and supply levels are
adequate for demand.
Oversee the road call program to minimize unnecessary road calls while providing timely and efficient
support to the operations department.
Assists with the development of vehicle specifications.
Conducts meeting with shop personnel to identify and resolve problems; provides counseling and
guidance when needed; Coordinates shop personnel’s shifts and assignments.
Administer first level disciplinary actions including verbal and written warnings.
Other duties as assigned.
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent is required.
Thorough knowledge of business practices applicable to garage management and the public transit
5+ years in diesel engine/heavy truck repair. Previous supervision experience is preferred.
Experience in transit vehicle repair. (CNG engine and compressor repair are preferred).
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Working knowledge of bus systems including engine, transmission, drivetrain, HVAC, ITS systems,
fareboxes, air/brakes and hydraulics.
Experience with engine diagnostics software, familiarity with Microsoft Office suite and Microsoft
Experience with fleet maintenance software
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general
Possession of a Class A commercial driver’s license with air brakes and passenger endorsements that
is valid in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Ability to obtain a Pennsylvania State Inspection license
