2014 Game Day Football Shuttle
The Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA) will again be providing service to the Penn State football home games this season via the Game Day Football Shuttle. the 2014 Game Day Shuttles schedule includes all of the information on routing, stops, schedule and fare. Click here for a printable version that includes all of the same information.
The Game Day Football Shuttle service consists of two separate routes that provide continuous service between some of the area hotels, Downtown State College, and Beaver Stadium.
Downtown Shuttle: serves primarily the Downtown hotels and the three Downtown parking garages.
South Atherton Shuttle: serves the many hotels along South Atherton St. along with several other areas where you can park and ride including:
The parking lot in the rear of Hills Plaza (not Hills South-see Hills Plaza parking map)
Along the street in Windmere Park (Rolling Ridge Dr, & Windmere Dr.) In Windmere Park, parking is only permitted along the street, except on the north side of the street on the northern loop. Parking in off-street private business lots is prohibited.
Both shuttles will stop only at the specially marked shuttle stop locations along the routes. In addition to the areas noted above, riders may take advantage of on-street parking along and close to South Atherton Street, University Drive and Easterly Parkway and the three large Downtown parking garages that are within two blocks of the Schlow Library stop on the Downtown shuttle. To see the actual routing and specific stop locations check the 2014 Game Day Shuttles schedule.
Each shuttle stop location is designated by a special sign showing which of the two shuttle routes serve that stop. Each route will only stop at these marked locations. The photo on the right shows an example of a stop served by regular CATABUS routes and the South Atherton Game Day shuttle Route service.
Afternoon kickoffs (before 5:00 p.m.): Both routes begin three hours before kickoff and run continuously until one hour after the game is over.
Evening kickoffs (5:00 p.m. or later): Both routes begin five hours before kickoff and run continuously until one hour after the game is over.
For both Afternoon and Evening kickoffs, both routes operate in both directions, to and from the stadium, approximately every ten minutes before the game and then every twenty minutes during the game. Following the game, they run continuously one-way from the stadium.
Once the shuttle stops, fans can take advantage of the no-fare LOOP routes that operates continuously between the LOOP stops near Beaver Stadium and Downtown State College. The Blue Loop operates until 2:30 a.m. while the White Loop operates until 4:00 a.m.
|New for 2014! Lower cash fare and more fare options!|
Riders may now use CATABUS tokens or any of the existing Community Service passes on the two Game Day Football Shuttle service routes.
The round-trip ticket option, introduced in 2013, has been discontinued in favor of a reduced cash fare (from $3.00 to $1.75) and acceptance on these two routes of the other existing discounted CATABUS Community Service fare options such as CATABUS tokens, free Senior Citizen ID cards etc...
The fare for 2014 has been reduced to the same as it is for the CATABUS Community Service ($1.75 per trip effective July 1, 2014) and all of those same fare options will now be accepted on the Game Day Football Shuttle service. Click here to get more information on all of those options.
HILLS PLAZA PARKING - IMPORTANT
Parking near Hills Plaza is permitted only in the following three areas:
The rear of Hills Plaza (shuttle parking is not permitted in the rear of Hills Plaza South)
Along Rolling Ridge Drive (not in the off-street parking lots unless with permission of the property owner)
Along Windmere Drive (not in the off-street parking lots unless with permission of the property owner)
These parking restrictions are necessary for the Hills merchants and their customers who, through their contribution of this parking area, make this valuable service to the community possible. Cars parked outside of these permitted parking areas will be subject to ticketing and towing, and may cause Hills Plaza to close the parking lot to Game Day Shuttle patrons altogether. Riders not following these restrictions will not be permitted to board the shuttle. Your cooperation is appreciated.
Since parking at Hills is limited, fans arriving at Hills within one hour of kickoff are encouraged to proceed directly to Windmere Drive or Rolling Ridge Drive where they will be able to park much closer to one of the pickup points than at Hills. Riders are also reminded that there is approximately 80 parking spaces available at Easterly Parkway Elementary School which is served both the South Atherton and Downtown shuttles. The shuttle stop on Beaver Avenue at Schlow Library is within two blocks of all three of large downtown parking garages.
