GUARANTEED RIDE HOME PROGRAM (GRH)
CATA is aware that commuters occasionally face emergencies that sometimes require immediate means of transportation. To address this concern for those who carpool or vanpool, we have established a GUARANTEED RIDE HOME PROGRAM (GRH), available to anyone registered with the RideShare Program and joined to a carpool or vanpool. Enjoy peace of mind with a guaranteed ride home.
An annual fee of $10.00 will register you to receive four rides home (up to a 50 mile one-way trip) in case an emergency disrupts your shared ride arrangements or would delay your trip home. (Full-time Penn State employees are automatically registered for free.)
Qualifying emergencies include:
-
Illness or medical emergencies (participants and/or family members)
-
Catastrophic personal emergencies (flood, fire, etc.)
-
Work-related emergencies such as company shut-down or unscheduled, mandatory overtime.
A guaranteed ride home will also be provided to those whose carpool or vanpool driver cannot provide a ride home because of a qualifying emergency as well.
The Guaranteed Ride Home Program provides service in emergencies, not on a routine basis; participants whose travel plans vary considerably or are subject to frequent change should consider this before registering. Use of the program is limited to emergencies and will be monitored by CATA. Any abuse of the program will result in a warning, followed by immediate removal from the program for further abuse.
Participants will be provided with taxi service or transportation by CATA personnel to the hospital, home, or relative's home, whichever is required. Arrangements to pick up a child from day care or school and then proceed to the proper destination will also be allowed. CATA and the taxi service will arrange shared ride service with other program participants whenever possible.
Participants are responsible for contacting CATA as quickly as possible when an emergency ride is needed. Please contact the Commuter Services Manager at 238-2282 ext. 134 for additional information and procedures for arranging a ride home
