John
C. Spychalski, Chairman - Ferguson Township |

Dr.
Spychalski has been a member of the CATA Board of
Directors as a representative of Ferguson Township
since 1980 and currently serves as the Chairman of
the Board. He has ridden public transportation in
State College regularly since the early 1970s.
Dr. Spychalski earned a Bachelor of Science degree
in Accounting from St. Joseph’s College in Indiana,
and Master of Business Administration and Doctor of
Business Administration degrees from Indiana University
in Bloomington, Indiana. Dr. Spychalski currently
serves as a Professor of Supply Chain Management in
the Smeal College of Business Administration at the
Pennsylvania State University. As a professor, he
is involved in teaching and research on transportation-related
subject matter. He also acts as the Editor of the
Transportation Journal, a refereed periodical for
the publication of research-based articles on topics
in transportation, logistics and supply chain management. |

Dr.
Spychalski and his wife, Mary Ann, have two adult children
and two grandchildren. The Spychalskis have lived in the Park
Hills subdivision of Ferguson Township for over thirty-five
years. Dr. Spychalski’s stress-relieving activities
include study of the history of all modes of transportation
in all parts of the world, and building of “O”
scale models of early-to-mid-twentieth century interurban
and intraurban electric railway equipment. |

Joseph
L. Davidson, Vice Chairman – College Township
|
Mr.
Davidson has represented College Township on the CATA
Board of Directors since 1995. He had been nominated
by a former College Township Council Member that thought
Mr. Davidson was qualified for the position, having
been a part-time Campus LOOP bus driver (he still
holds his Commercial Driver’s License with passenger
and air brake endorsements).
Mr. Davidson has over twenty years of retail business,
management and some finance experience. He currently
serves as the Centre County Recorder of Deeds. He
is a life-long Centre Region resident and a graduate
of the Pennsylvania State University with a degree
in Business Administration. |

Joe
lives in the same home in Harris Acres in College Township
that’s been in his family for over forty years. He lives
there with his wife, Wendy and their son Hayden. In his spare
time, Mr. Davidson enjoys collecting and operating Lionel
toy trains, muscle cars and serves as an active member and
past Chief of the Boalsburg Fire Company. |

Richard
Kipp, Treasurer – Harris Township |
Mr.
Kipp has served on the CATA Board as the Harris Township
representative since 1993 and as the Board Treasurer
since 1999.
Mr. Kipp was trained at the Pennsylvania State University
and at the Cleveland Institute of Art as a graphic
designer and industrial engineer, with degrees from
each institution. Upon graduating, he began work as
an exterior automobile designer with the Chevrolet
Division of General Motors, working primarily on Chevrolet
Novas and Camaros. He also worked as a consumer products
designer for the Westinghouse Corporation and GTE
Sylvania. Mr. Kipp currently works in Penn State’s
College of Agricultural Sciences, where he’s
moved from Photographer/Exhibits Designer to AV Manager
and Associate Director of the college’s recently
formed Information and Communications Technologies
unit. |

Mr.
Kipp grew up near Pittsburgh in New Kensington, PA (then known
as the Aluminum City) during WWII as one of three children;
his father was a research chemical engineer with Alcoa Aluminum
Corporation. Following college and during his final year in
Cleveland, he met his wife Phyllis, a free-lance artist. He
and Phyllis have three children, one a grad student at Penn
State following two years in the Peace Corp, one who is married
and living in State College, and a third who is attending
a graduate school in New York City. Following many years in
metropolitan areas, the Kipps thrive on the life of Centre
County with its mix of rural residents and international students.
The Kipps own a 1969 Camaro and VW. Mr. Kipp has ridden public
transportation daily to work for nearly 30 years. |

Gary
Powers - Patton Township |
| Mr.
Powers has been a member of the CATA Board of Directors
as a representative of Patton Township since 2001
after being appointed by Patton Township upon the
retirement of former Board member Bob Link.
Mr. Powers graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with
a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering.
He served six years in the Navy and after graduation,
in the submarine service. After leaving the Navy,
he spent sixteen years with Corning and is now in
his seventh year as an instructor at the South Hills
School of Business and Technology.
Mr. Powers lives with his wife, Karen, and their nineteen-year-old
son, Michael, in the Park Forest area of Patton Township.
Mr. Powers and his family have lived in the State
College area since 1986. |

Kathryn
Bittner– State College Borough
|
| Ms.
Bittner joined the CATA Board in November 2004, filling
the vacancy left by the retirement of Don Sherman.
Ms. Bittner earned a Bachelor of Science degree in
Finance from the University of South Florida and also
graduated with honors from Consumer Bankers Association’s
Graduate School of Retail Bank Management in Charlottesville,
VA. She is currently pursuing a Masters of Business
Administration (MBA) from Saint Francis University
in Loretto, PA.
Ms. Bittner has twenty years of retail/financial services
management experience and has spent the last 12 years
in the State College banking industry, starting with
Mellon/Citizens Bank. Her current position is Relationship
Manager in M&T Bank’s Business and Professional
Banking Division, serving businesses in Centre County. |

Ms.
Bittner is very active in supporting Downtown State College
and the surrounding community and stays involved in the business
community through the CBICC and other volunteer work. She
was involved with the Downtown State College Partnership as
a Board Member as well as several committees, prior to the
formation of the Downtown State College Improvement District
in 2002. Since 2002, she has served as a Board Member of the
Downtown State College Improvement District and currently
serves as Treasurer as well as Chair of the Finance Committee.
Ms. Bittner has lived in the Centre Region for 13 years and
in the Borough within a mile of Downtown State College for
the last 6 years. |

Hugh
A. Mose - CATA General Manager |
| Hugh
Mose has been employed in the public transportation
industry for over 25 years. A graduate in Civil Engineering
from Bucknell University, he also holds an M.S. degree
in Transportation and Urban Systems from the University
of Maryland, College Park, Maryland.
Mr. Mose’s professional background includes
five years as Transit Manager for the City of Iowa
City, Iowa; four years as Assistant Transit Director
for the City of Fresno, California; and eight years
as General Manager for Intercity Transit, Olympia,
Washington. He has served as CATA’s General
Manager since 1995. |

Mr. Mose is very involved in the public transportation industry,
serving on the the American Public Transportation Association
Board of Directors and as Chair of the Small Operations
Committee. He’s also active in the State College community,
where he is a member of the United Way campaign cabinet,
the Board of Directors of the SPE Federal Credit Union,
and the Rotary Club of State College/Downtown, where he
is the Immediate Past President.
Mr. Mose and his wife, Janyce, live in the Borough of State
College, where they share their home with a retired professional
athlete - a Greyhound dog. A Clinical Audiologist, Janyce
specializes in the fitting of high-tech hearing aids. Together
both Hugh and Janyce enjoy traveling, golf, being involved
in the community, and enjoying all the amenities that Penn
State brings to the community.
Mr. Mose was born and reared in Elmira, New York. Prior
to his career in the transit industry, he was employed by
Consolidated Gas Supply Corporation, where he attained his
registration as a Professional Engineer.
