Service & Fleet Information and Operating Statistics

CATA Services:

  • CENTRE LINE - Fixed-route regional bus system connecting all participating municipalities with Downtown State College and the Penn State Campus.
  • LOOP & LINK - Very frequent fare-free downtown/campus circulator (LOOP) and cross-campus shuttle service (LINK).
  • CENTRE COMMUTE - Family of CATA services that includes Rideshare (vanpools and carpools) and Guaranteed Ride Home, designed to provide commuters with easy and economical ways to get to and from work via commute alternatives.
  • PARK & RIDE - Inexpensive remote parking for Downtown State College business employees.
  • CENTRE RIDE - Curb-to-curb transportation for senior citizens (persons age 65 and older) and people whose disabilities prevent their use of CENTRE LINE buses.
  • SPECIAL SERVICES - Shuttle service for special events including Penn State home football games, the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts™, Ag Progress Days, the Bellefonte Arts & Crafts Fair, and First Night® State College.

Fleet Information:

Fixed Route(CENTRE LINE, LOOP, LINK and SPECIAL SERVICES)-52 buses:

  • 30 New Flyer, low-floor, 30-39 passenger, compressed natural gas, ramp-equipped buses
  • 16 Orion, 42 passenger, compressed natural gas, lift-equipped buses
  • 4 ElDorado, 26 passenger, compressed natural gas, ramp-equipped buses
  • 2 Ford, 18 passenger, compressed natural gas, lift-equipped minibuses

Paratransit (Used by Handy Delivery, Inc. via contract to provide paratransit services (via CATA’s “CENTRE RIDE” program)-4 minibuses:

  • 3 Ford, 5-10 passenger, lift-equipped small buses
  • 1 Daimler Chrysler, 10 passenger, lift-equipped Sprinter van

Other information:

Interior Bus Advertising
The sale of interior bus advertising is contracted out through Morgan Signs of Altoona, PA. Information is available by calling (814) 944-3951. CATA does not allow for exterior bus advertising at this time.

Facility Tours
Facility tours are conducted for groups of children six years of age and older. Please contact Jacqueline Sheader, CATA Marketing Manager, at (814) 238-2282 ext. 141 for additional information or to arrange a tour.

Streaming Videos
Short 1-3 minute videos are available on CATA’s website at www.catabus.com. The videos introduce first-time riders to, or assist infrequent riders with, the CATA system and provide further explanation of the services available and how to use them. The videos cover seven topics: “Identifying Services,” “Introduction to Bus 101,” “Reading Your CATA Schedules,” “Bus Riding Fundamentals,” “Riding Etiquette,” “Accessibility for the Disabled,” and “Use of Bike Racks.”All seven videos are available to stream in Real Media format and available for download in Windows Media Player format.
