Ridership Information
"Putting Ridership Data to Work for Transit and the Community"

Working closely with Avail Technologies Inc. of State College and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, CATA is now able to provide detailed, current ridership data on its web site. Working together we have created a program that continuously generates ridership totals for several different periods of time and then breaks those totals down further by Route and fare category. The totals are then compared to the corresponding time periods a year ago to show ridership trends. Using the ridership data collected through the previous day, those totals and trends are then displayed in nine different tables and graphs which are generated daily and and available through the links below. Note that the ridership totals include only passengers using what the transit industry refers to as "fixed route" service. That includes CENTRE LINE and LOOP/LINK service. CENTRE RIDE (Paratransit and Senior Citizen Shared Ride) passengers and those using our seasonal SPECIAL SERVICES (Arts Festival Shuttle, Gameday Football Shuttle etc..) are not included in these totals.

A detailed description of the totals in each of those tables and charts is provided below with links that will open just that individual tables/charts in a separate window.
Table/Charts 1-3: System wide Ridership

The first table Ridership by Service - Summary shows total ridership on the four-route LOOP/LINK service and our seventeen-route CENTRE LINE service over four different periods:

  • Month-to-Date (the current calendar month to-date)
  • Previous 30 Days (the last 30 days)
  • Year-to-Date (the current calendar year to-date)
  • Previous 365 Days (the last 365 days)

The percentage change from that exact same corresponding time period a year ago is then shown next to each of those totals. The next two charts Centre Line Ridership Trend and LOOP/LINK Ridership Trend are graphic representations of those percentage changes. The dates shown at the top of each table/chart indicates when the information is through or as-of (usually about 3-4 days prior to today's date).
Table/Charts 4 & 5: Centre Line Ridership by Route

The first table Centre Line Ridership by Route takes those Centre Line ridership totals from the Ridership by Service - Summary table and breaks them down by route over that same four different time periods. The percentage change from that exact same corresponding time period a year ago is then shown next to each of those totals.

The following chart Centre Line Ridership is a graphic representation of the totals from the "Previous 365 Days" column.

The first table LOOP - LINK Ridership by Route takes those LOOP/LINK ridership totals from the Ridership by Service - Summary table and breaks them down by route over that same four different time periods. The first table Centre Line Ridership by Fare - Detail takes those Centre Line ridership totals from the Ridership by Service - Summary table and breaks them down by fare category over that same four different time periods. The percentage change from that exact same corresponding time period a year ago is then shown next to each of those totals.
The following chart Centre Line Ridership by Fare is a graphic representation of the totals from the "Previous 365 Days" column.
Since the LOOP/LINK is no-fare service there is no
LOOP/LINK Ridership by Fare data for that service.
